Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

A Child's Bedtime Prayer Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray to God my soul to take. If I should live for other days, I pray the Lord to guide my ways. Father, unto thee I pray, Thou hast guarded me all day; Safe I am while in thy sight, Safely let me sleep tonight. Rest~ Sleep ~your body needs

Rest~ Sleep ~your body needs

We can not have great health if we don’t get enough sleep!  Inadequate sleep is a risk factor for many diseases. Sleep is resting the whole body. Getting adequate sleep is very important to our health. During sleep, our body rejuvenate, repairs and recharges.  If you do not get enough sleep, you simply can not have good health!  Many of us are sleep deprived yet we do not really know it.  If you are lacking in sleep, your body is under constant stress.  Chronic elevated stress is a risk factor for most disease. How much sleep is needed? Different people require different amounts of sleep but as a rule of thumb, we need 8 hours of quality sleep a minimum of 6 hours.  Any underlying sleep disorders, such as sleep latency, insomnia, and sleep apnea, should be corrected to obtain a high quality of sleep.  If you wake up tired or if your energy fades during the day, you may not be getting enough sleep. We all need good sound sleep every night. There are times  during the day when we should rest our minds from problems, rest our ears from the noises around us and rest our eyes by shutting them for 5 mins or better yet looking at things of nature. Rest your body by not being such workaholic. Work and rest is what is needed; not work, work, work.  ”Some  make themselves sick by overwork. For these rest, freedom from care, and a spare diet, are essential to restoration of health.”~~ MH p 236. ”We need quiet communion with God, when every other voice is hushed, and in the quietness we wait before Him, the silence of the soul makes more distinct the voice of God. He bids us, ‘Be still and know that I am God’ (Psalm 46:10)….Amidst the hurrying throng, and strain of life’s intense activities, he who is thus refreshed, will be surrounded with an atmosphere of light and peace”~~~~MH, p 58 Our heavenly father has given us a physical law of rest which we need for optimum health; He also knew we needed time to rest with Him, time to worship Him and refresh ourselves in the things of God~ His creation.. God rested after He created the world and He gave us the Sabbath to remember our Creator, Worship Him  and enjoy His creation. He blessed that day and sanctified it. He loves us and gave us all we need  even a day of rest where we can rejuvenate our selves spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally and increase longevity. “And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the...

I Will Tune My Ear to Heaven

Devotion And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye shall turn to the right hand, and when ye shall turn to the left. Isa. 30:21 Many narratives of the Inspired Word are given to teach us that the human family is the object of the special care of God and heavenly beings. Man is not left to become the sport of Satan’s temptations. All heaven is actively engaged in the work of communicating light to the inhabitants of the world, that they may not be left in the darkness of midnight without spiritual guidance. An Eye that never slumbers or sleeps is guarding the camp of Israel. Ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands of angels are ministering to the needs of the children of men. Voices inspired by God are crying, This is the way, walk ye in it. We can avoid seeing many of the evils that are multiplying so fast in these last days. We can avoid hearing about much of the wickedness and crime that exist. To the active minds of children and youth, the scenes pictured in imaginary revelations of the future are realities. As revolutions are predicted, and all manner of proceedings described that break down the barriers of law and self-restraint, many catch the spirit of these representations. They are led to the commission of crimes even worse, if possible, than these sensational writers depict. Through such influences as these society is becoming demoralized. The seeds of lawlessness are sown broadcast. None need marvel that a harvest of crime is the result. Say firmly: “. . . I will close my eyes to frivolous and sinful things. My ears are the Lord’s and I will not listen to the subtle reasoning of the enemy. My voice shall not in any way be subject to a will that is not under the influence of the Spirit of God. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and every power of my being shall be consecrated to worthy pursuits.” From My Life Today – Page 93 by Ellen G....

Health Tips

Health Tips

Give Attention to the Principles of Hygiene—The principles of hygiene as applied to diet, exercise, the care of children, the treatment of the sick, and many like matters should be given much more attention than they ordinarily receive. In the study of hygiene the earnest teacher will improve every opportunity to show the necessity of perfect cleanliness both in personal habits and in all one’s surroundings…. Teach the pupils that a healthful sleeping room, a thoroughly clean kitchen, and a tastefully arranged, wholesomely supplied table will go farther toward securing the happiness of the family and the regard of every sensible visitor than any amount of expensive furnishing in the drawing room. That “the life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment” [Luke 12:23] is a lesson no less needed now than when given by the divine Teacher eighteen hundred years ago. From Adventist Home p.89-90 by Ellen G....

The Air We Breathe

The Air We Breathe

“He giveth to all life, and breath, and all things.” Acts 17:25 Air is the free blessing of heaven, calculated to electrify the whole system. The lungs are constantly throwing off impurities, and they need to be constantly supplied with fresh air. We are more dependent upon the air we breathe than upon the food we eat. Men and women, young and old, who desire health, and who would enjoy active life, should remember that they cannot have these without a good circulation. Whatever their business and inclinations, they should make up their minds to exercise in the open air as much as they can. They should feel it a religious duty to overcome the conditions of health which have kept them confined indoors, deprived of exercise in the open air. Air, the precious boon of heaven, which all may have, will bless you with its invigorating influence if you will not refuse it entrance. Welcome it, cultivate a love for it, and it will prove a precious soother of the nerves. . . . The influence of pure, fresh air is to cause the blood to circulate healthfully through the system. It refreshes the body and tends to render it strong and healthy, while at the same time its influence is decidedly felt upon the mind, imparting a degree of composure and serenity. It excites the appetite and renders the digestion of food more perfect, and induces sound, sweet sleep. The pure, invigorating air of heaven is God’s free gift to men and women, and it is impossible for them to be cheerful, healthful, and happy unless they appreciate these rich bounties and allow them to answer the purpose for which they were designed. * * * * * The free, pure air of heaven is one of the richest blessings we can enjoy.
